Organising ideas and Housekeeping Tips from Molly Maid

We all dream of coming home to an organised and clean house so we can focus on what really matters, right? Like relaxing with a glass of wine while reading the latest issue of our favourite magazine. What?-Oh no!  What I meant to say was spending quality time with our family & loved ones.

I can't help but smile when looking at this picture

It's easy to get carried away with our 'To Do' lists that never seem to end.  But when things start to get on top of us, it's important to recognise that we can't always do everything ourselves.  Hiring someone to help is not uncommon and usually translates to living a better quality of life.

Molly Maid is just one of the wonderful sponsors of my ~Delicious Room Makeover~ Contest.  They offer a great service that for many of their clients is a 'must have' because they help to not only ease your workload but also your stress levels.

I want to share with you some of  Molly Maids' simple yet effective ideas for home organisation as well as their helpful tips for keeping your house and it's furnishings looking beautiful.

Neat and tidy. A sigh of relief!

Staying Organised

  • Instead of many small perfume and personal care items sitting individually on the vanity counter, place them in a decorative basket or on a tray.
This idea also makes for a very pretty display.

  • A toy chest kept at the end of your child's bed is an ideal place to store toys & games. Plastic bins or baskets can be stored in a closet or underneath the bed to eliminate clutter.
Keep what you can organised.

  • 'Stuff ' that has not been used in a while may be just taking up space.  Try donating such items to a charitable organisation, selling them at a yard sale or set them outside at the curb with a "free" sign attached.  (My side note -Unless of course you can find ways or repurposing or upcycling these items yourself!)

Protect your floors!

Such natural beauty that needs to be taken care of thoughtfully

Flooring is a huge investment & one that you are not likely to change for a very long time.  This fixed element takes the biggest beating of any other in your home. For this reason, it's important to take care of them properly.  Here's some great advice from Molly Maid that will help you do just that.

  • Protect your floors and furniture by preventing surface damage. Never set wet cloths, bottles, buckets or damp mops on furniture, hardwood floors, carpet or marble.

  • To reduce the risk of slip and fall accidents, place anti-slip backing under throw rugs.
  • Place a mat inside and outside each entrance to your home to reduce the dirt that is brought in on shoes and boots.

  • How cheery would this colourful mat be at your front door? Too cute!

    In the Kitchen...

Definitely a place we want to keep clean.
    • To soften splatters inside the microwave, fill a cup with water and microwave on high for one minute. The steam will loosen any baked on food so it can be wiped clean. Be careful that the water does not boil over the cup and burn your hand.

    • Allow burner rings and drip pans from the stove to soak in a sink full of hot, soapy water. This will loosen the dirt and make them easier to clean.

The Top 3 tips (for me)

    1. Picture Frames - Always spray glass cleaner on your cloth and never directly on the glass to prevent seepage under the glass that could damage the picture.

    2. Pet Hair - A damp cloth will remove pet hair from your upholstered furniture.

    3. Minimise Odours - Add a fabric softener sheet to the wastebasket to avoid odours.
